Our History

Taconnet Federal Credit UnionTaconnet Federal Credit Union was chartered on November 12, 1953 and was originally started to serve the employees of Hollingsworth & Company. In February, 1962, the bylaws were changed from Hollingsworth & Company, a division of Scott Paper Company, to employees of the Northeast division of Scott Paper Company in Winslow, Maine.Employees of the Woodlands division of the Scott Paper company who work in Maine and are paid from Winslow, Maine. November 1973, the charter was amended to include the Woodlands division of Scott Paper Company. This was to include in the field of membership, employees who worked in the woods. In September 1986, SD Warren, a division of Scott Paper Company opened in Skowhegan, Maine. Scott Paper Company sold the Winslow Paper Mill to Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

In 1997, the S.D. Warren Mill in Skowhegan was sold to Sappi Fine Paper and the Kimberly-Clark Mill in Winslow closed. In 1999, the Good Will Hinckley Home for Boys and Girls and the employees of George Walter Associates who work in Hinckley, Maine were added to our Charter. 2001 employees and students of Winslow Elementary who work or attend school in Winslow, Maine were added to our Charter. The 2005 charter was amended to read: Persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in and businesses and other legal entities located in Kennebec County, Maine or Somerset County, Maine are welcomed into Taconnet’s field of membership.

The Credit Union had its first office in the old club house behind the Winslow fire station.
Later, a house was bought on Herd Street in Winslow, Maine and converted into an office.
In 1982, a piece of land was leased to Taconnet on Benton Avenue from Scott Paper Company and our first Office was built with the size of 30’x50′.
In 1996 we doubled the size of the building. In May of 2015, our Skowhegan branch moved from RR 201 to 245 Madison Avenue.

To become a member is as easy as opening a savings (share) account with a $25.00 minimum balance. Once this account is opened you may use or apply for the many convenient services that Taconnet offers.
